Tacho input question.

#1 PostAuthor: tlc » Wed Mar 09, 2016 7:22 am

Up until Sunday I had a dancing electronic Tacho. Thinking there was a fault I bought another which did the same. Despite putting power directly from the battery in the prescribed manner there was definitely an internal issue.

Well, it's now settled down to a lovely smooth operation but reads at half the speed it should.
Question is can I double the signal to the Tacho in some way?
I'm using a full standard GPZ11 UT ignition.

Presumably the tacho feed is from one coil?

You could feed from both coils which will double the pulses to the tacho.

You'd obviously need to put a diode in each feed line to stop the coils being powered through the common tacho connection.

WARNING this advice is from someone who's electronics training is a) theoretical and b) from the valve era :)

Those were my thoughts. Any other suggestions welcome.
