I've never imported a bike into the UK before but will be supplied with a NOVA will be dealt with by a dealer. My questions relate to getting the bike registered in the UK and an age related plate.
Firstly there isn't a registration document for the bike, as it was deregistered and the logbook is returned to the government. Is this normal or am I receiving a stolen bike into the UK or is the NOVA sufficient !?!?
What I do have is a document but only seems to mention the frame number and no mention of when it was first registered. Plus it's in Italian - no surprise there.
Does anyone have any experience in importing especially when dealing with the DVLA and the pitfalls that I might encounter?

Yes. What bike is it?

The DVLA have a list on their website of recognised owners groups, clubs and manufacturers from whom they will accept a dating letter. You will need to find the most-suitable person to provide this, who (unless it's something really random) should be able to date the bike from the frame number. Expect to have to pay for the letter, anything up to around a hundred quid.

Then, give the DVLA a call and ask them to send you a V55/5 form. Complete the absolute minimum on this form, get the bike insured on the chassis number and MOT'd (you can ride it there and back without a plate so long as the test is pre-booked and the bike insured - it feels very naughty but it's perfectly legal!), then send all of the relevant paperwork, first registration fee and tax to the DVLA and you should have a reg number back in a few weeks. My last one took about two weeks (confirmed by a letter with a taxdisc), with the logbook arriving a couple of weeks after then. Once you have confirmation that it's taxed you're good to go!

Thanks guys. It's a GPZ1100B1 by the way. I had the B2 many years ago in Cornwall. Supposedly all working but expect a few niggles with the injection.

I was a little concerned when I was told there was only a single document, in Italian, and it had very few details. Imagined it being hauled away by the police as it was dodgy

Give KMUK a call as they should be able to help with a dating letter. At least your Italian document proves that you won't have to pay VAT.

After making a payment they will confirm date of manufacture which dvla will use to supply a new reg.
Your receipt will prove vat is not due.
