What is the best H4 (wattage) headlight bulb to fit on a UK spec Z1B without overloading the 40yr old standard electrics?

Nobody out there
The original bulb is like a candle. Is there anything better that won't melt stuff ?

Steve let me know when you find out. Came back the other evening and could not tell if the blinking light was on or not. It was only who I saw that slight glow on the car in front at the traffic lights. I'm sure a modern day push bike light kicks out more power.

If its standard bulb in there then just leave it on high beam all the time....it might reach 10 watts

No one ever flashed me when I used to leave mine on

Use the original wiring to switch a relay which is fed from a higher rated fuse ,wiring and is capable of handling the extra current, you can then safely fit high output lamps.

Osram 'Night breaker unlimited' are standard fit H4 bulbs - extra output without using more amps.
Halfrauds etc...
As Paul says - the standard 40 year old wiring/switches can be used to operate a relay - micro relays from auto electrical supplies would fit inside the headlamp shell.

z-fever do a clear 7" headlamp which I am toying with using.

Non original appearance could be a deal breaker!

Could be the reflective 'silvering' on the back of the headlight, which does deteriorate over time, rather than the bulb - In which case a new light unit could be the easy answer
Worth checking anyhow.

The standard H4 fitment is 55/60watt, which will work fine on your bike providing the wiring's not shagged. If the wiring is knacked then a new loom is not a huge investment from Z Power and they also sell pattern switches. Whilst the switches aren't as good quality as the OEM ones, they are loads better than a shagged out stocker!
I think that the wiring on most Zeds is getting beyond it's sell by date these days and I have rewired dozens of them now. I wouldn't say I can actually do 'em with my eyes shuts, but I'm getting there

Might be worth trying to get hold of a new cibie headlight unit they did a direct fitment and its so much better than the original
I will have a look on mine to see if there is a reference number
