To Pod or not to Pod....

Hi all. I am after some advice please . I am restoring a 1980 B4 LTD barn find imported from the USA. It came minus the air box so to get it running I bought some cheap pods. I was mindful of sucking in the odd Daddy Longlegs...
It now runs but does not seem too happy. I have read various opinions on whether to stick with the pods and re-jet the carbs or simply go back to an airbox as pods can be "more trouble than they are worth". Given I am not after straightline performace at this stage an original airbox seems like my prefered option but I cant find one for love nor money. (Anyone got one to sell?)
I guess my ultimate aim would be to have pods, re-jet the carbs and junk the emissions stuff. However, it would be nice to get the bike running as it should before I do this so I know I am working from a known good starting point.
Its worth saying that everything else checks out fine and I have done the curious'george mod so I am confident the rough running is to do with the carbs.
Of course, I may then have to do something about the hilarious speedometer that only goes up to 85MPH....
