1000A2 forked forks

#1 PostAuthor: RALPHARAMA » Tue Jan 29, 2008 11:52 pm

When I stripped my 1000A2 forks, bought from e-bay, they appeared to have bearings in the tops of the sliders as did some forkes I used off a GPZ550 many moons ago for a special I built. According to the parts book hey don't exist. When I reassembled the fork legs I realised that there was a small amount of 'slop' in the sliders on the tubes, which could, presumeably be solved by replacing these bearings, but with the parts book and workshop manual denying their existance getting a part number could be tricky. I changed these bearings on the GPZ forks, but cant remember how they came out. Many , many moons ago :( and I killed it stone dead  on the IOM thanks to some wanker on a Duke doing a ewey on the exit of the second left after the goose neck. I know it was the best part of 14 years ago but I still pissed about it. It's bad enough being fucked by car drivers!
Any one shed any light on this? :?:

I had the same problem a couple of months ago when rebuilding a pair of z1000j forks. Was told the upper bushes are not (and never were) available. I think, and I'm only guessing, you probably have to replace the sliders. You might also want to check the availability of the lower bushes. They are nla for the 1000j but gpz900 lower bushes can be used but need trimming slightly first.
