cam chain tensioner

#1 PostAuthor: Dookbob » Tue Sep 22, 2015 7:12 pm

could someone tell me the procedure for adjusting the cam chain tensioner on a 1977 Z1000. The one on the back of the block adjacent to the oil pressure switch. I have had mine apart and the plunger is not reacting to the spring pressure, it apears to be fixed in one position. I only took it off to remove the starter motor. The Haynes manual doesn,t give me a clue at all.

It should have a bolt on the top with a nut.Undo and it should tension then re-tighten.You should be able to get the starter motor out without taking it off.Do not turn the engine over without it in.

The tensioner should only be used or removed when engine is set at TDC 1+4 cylinders
