I have had my Z1b for about 3 years now and its never run properly.
It misses and is just not right.
I want it sorting over the coming winter so that I can use it as it should be used next year.
I am near Chesterfield/Mansfield and could van the bike to be looked at and sorted. Is there anyone in the club that is willing to do this please [local ish]?

I have loads of 2 strokes, all running well, but I cant sort this z. I just want to leave it with someone and get it done before the spring.

Thanks Gary

I am sure there will be many that be willing to give you advice although probably not as many would do all the work for you. Unless, you line their pockets with wonga :D

What have you tried/checked so far?

Things I would check...

Starting with the easy ones.

Inlet rubbers - These are favourites for failing on older bikes not sealing due to ageing - hard, split, cracks, etc...

Plugs - Check plug caps and plugs for cracks or tracking - check gaps - note colour see if one or two are noticeably different (lighter in colour) to the majority.

Ignition system - Get the multi meter out and check voltage to coils (12v), coils general inspection and check connections, ignition timing, HT leads, earths, handlebar kill switch, etc...

Carbs - If one of the plugs looks a different colour to the other concentrate on that carb. Check floats and levels, jets, emulsifier tubes, airways, air / mixture screw settings. Balance and colour tune.

Valve clearances and valve timing.

Thats for a start and should keep you busy for a day or so :)

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Phil.

I am more than ready to pay what ever is wanted to get it running properly.

I have done ALL the usual things, I suspect the problem is to do with valves etc.
As I said all my other bikes are 2 strokes, I wouldnt know where to start with this.

I think I might of mentioned this a year or so ago but have you checked the valve clearances? :)

he mentions the valves in the comment immediately before yours Kas, he wants someone to look at them.

If it hasn't run well for about 3 years odd.... I would first check the compression and see they are all equal. Make sure you have throttle fully open during test.

If you have carbs off thats the best time to do it, incase one of the throttle slides is not fully up!

Next check condensers and coils.

I do find the major let down of power is bent valves.... Often done during an overhaul of head. Of course, nil valve clearance will diagnose the same as bent valves.

I think you have to applaud someone who knows he is out of his depth and wants someone who knows what they're doing to look at it.

rather that try and then cock it up.

hopefully someone more local to you will offer to have a look for you..............
