Sparking Points !

#1 PostAuthor: phil1r » Fri Sep 04, 2015 8:42 pm

Hi Guy's, am I correct in saying my condensers could be Duff if I'm getting sparking at the points :?: Only problem is they where probably fitted about 2 years ago, but done very little miles in that time. I do intend fitting an electronic ignition at some time but I'm desperate to make it run well as it should, first with original points. Am I mad  or just stupid :?:

Sod it, Dyna S here we come :!: I'm getting fed up now, with trying to get this bike running as it should. After wired George Mod, new stator, new regulator rectifier, Iridium plugs fitted. What next :( never had so much patience with a bike, but this is now running out.

Phil,
Dyna coils too.
It's worth it in the long run for starting and running performance.

Steve

Phil when I had a thou I had years of it faffing around new plugs, condensers, points, coils, dyna system, harness completely stripped and checked, all mechanical timings and clearances done and it still faffed about, I put a two into one back on it similar to originals and bingo no problems ever again.

+1. It's also guaranteed to confirm your suspicions over the existing ones.

I'm sure the Dyna system is good & I've a CDi MK11 ignition system on my 900 kawa & yeh there both reliable I'm sure......... BUT- hey, with points & condensors you'll always get home if it goe's tits up on you at the side of the road & you can buy alot of points & condensors for 295 sobs. O yeh , I guess your aware that points do normally spark ... but when they really start arcing quite brightly ....yeh there toast & you can test em quickly & easy enough you'll find the simple tests in the manual.
Mmmm, I guess you could always have the best of both world too & carry your spare points plate assy under your seat...just in case ! Cheers Johny Brando.

No matter the "pro's & con's" of points..... Dyna S will give a better & more precise spark, so go for it. I'd defo go for some Dyna 3 ohm coils as well to reap the full benefit of improved starting, running, power & fuel efficiency

Dyna S

#14 PostAuthor: phil1r » Thu Sep 10, 2015 7:11 pm

Before I fit the Dyna S. I'm still having a go to make it run 95% on points, as said before changed condensers with no difference. I have a feeling 2-3 coil may be a problem, but not a obvious fault. So put a brand new set of Denso plugs in AGAIN  2nd set in a week. I managed to ride it for a few miles not good though, but better than before. Got back looked at plugs again, number 2 wet but header pipe warm  . Changed the plug cap on 2 ran slightly better :?:
So I've purchased a cheap coil with leads to replace 2-3. But my problem is where to put the wires, one is black and the other is black with white line. So anyone know
:?: :?:
