Semi synthetic oil in z1b

Hi can I use castrol roll gtx semi synthetic in my Z1b or does it balls up the clutc

Don't use car semi synthetic in a bike it will make the clutch slip.

Synthetic Oil for bike use should be JASO MA approved. Like the stuff what i sell

i use halfords semi synthetic motorcycle oil - no problem.

if its motorcycle oil shouldn't be an issue

I use Morris semi synthetic on my bike and a mate uses it on a Z1300, no trouble at all.

Because it's as runny as water and it makes your engine sound like a bag of nails.

It's not good for roller bearing engines as it's so slippy the rollers skid instead of rolling, that's fine, until they break the oil film, because the contact point of a roller or ball in a bearing is so small, then they wear as the ball or roller catches up with the race.

I've seen engines with destroyed bearings that look like thruppeny bits because of it, it's designed for high load shell bearings, not even gearboxes, that's why they produced a Mobil 1 Bike version.

Shaggy tread carefully mate.... To be technically correct it must be rated with JASO MA 1 or 2 (this rating is for use in a combined G/box & crank application including using a Wet Clutch ..... you will likely only find this in Motorcycle specific oils ) This is not to say other types or brands won't work ! ....... it's purely to say there is a difference & Caveat Emptor / Buyer Beware ! For me it's like this - some things "I don't know I don't know", some things "I know I know" and some things "I know I don't know".

I know I don't 'know' about oil.

I think there are very few people who do genuinely 'know' about oil, and I am not one of them, so bearing in mind that oil is much cheaper than engines, I use what the manufacturer says, or a quality oil that specifically says it is for my application.

Keyboard experts who say this or that oil is fine won't be the ones paying for my engine rebuild.

Confirmed, use AMSOIL in my zeds, as recommended by Ray Debben.

Good quality 10/40 or 20/50 mineral and change the oil every 3k or year. You can't go wrong , the bike and every other 70s bike was never designed for thin runny oil, irrespective of how many experts say this or that.

If there is a problem they will all run for cover and blame something else. That the way of the world when it comes to experts.
