Kickstart

#1 PostAuthor: scott » Wed Jan 23, 2008 11:55 am

Hi Guys,
i have two kickstarts. My kz1000a2 came with a curved kickstart. The other kickstart is straight. Is the curved one for an early z1 and the straight one for later models of z1 and z1000?

I think they were all straight shafted as standard although some owners may have modified them to suit themselves, through perhaps fitting rear sets, accident damage, fit behind race fairings even?

kick start

Scott,

i noticed this a year or so ago 'cos i have 2 Zed thousands

i asked a top owners club guy and he said "WHAT you on about?????no they're all the same" but they are not.

The fact is some people notice and some don't, it does not really matter much to me so i have gotten over it and just see it as a matter of Kawasaki character.

Hope that helps.

Regards

Hi Steve,
i've gotten over it too.....it's just i read something by dave marsden and he states the curved was for early z1 and straight ones appeared after that. I was going to sell the kickstart but i've now given it away.

Cheers Steve

I am interested in this topic as I have recently been given one that is curved and I was intending to straighten it..... Perhaps, I'll wait until we have more of a consensus.

Sure, everyone and anybody "can get over it". However, it cost little to find out the correct answer and it's half the fun of a great sporting hobby!

Further, on this kickstarter subject, I recall being told that the early kick-starter splined shaft was machine-sawn off, whereas the later ones were parted off and had a centre machined in the end.... Never did follow this up!
