Hit & miss
Engineering sense says NO.... but reality has seen many successful swaps

Agree with Pigford, They are line-bored.
Have seen it done, with a large supply of cam caps and a lot of luck!.

It's a yes on that one, set head up on the bench with no valves in it, if cams turn freely with very little resistance you will be ok, if they bind swap a cap over you will get there.

Thanks for that lads sounds possible the reason i asked someone has semi butchered the head in the past and drilled some holes out for a bigger bolt m8 . Got a standard head with no caps so i dont know whether to make some dowels for the btm of caps or just get some std ones

That question has always been a BIG subject.
You are not meant to, but it does get done.
If I had a head with a broken / missing cap, I'd try it!!
They are line bored so they theoretically should never be mixed up.

If they have previously gone to 8mm, the two bolt holes in each cap that had dowels in originally I would make a shouldered insert with the dowel incorporated the bottom end being 10mm with a 6mm thread down through it, a few years ago I made a couple for MR PUFFIN on here and his bike is still going strong.
