I am looking to install electronic ignition to my A4.

Looking around there only seems to be a couple of alternatives, Boyer and the Dyna S?

Which is the best and more importantly the most reliable and easy to setup and install?

I have read that the Dyna system draws a fairly high current that can lead to battery failure if run with lights, is that the case and members experience?

I also note that the Dyna system retains the mechanical advance unit, does that not retain some of the inherent issues associated with the original points system with 'sticky' inconsistent tickover and poor low revs pick up and a full advance limit of 2500 revs?

Everybody seems to find fault with Boyer is that really justified and since it provides a fully electronic/digital advance curve does it not provide a more stable tick over and pick up together with a full advance curve above 2500 revs?

Shop about and get yoursen an Newtronic optical system ( Piranha) and pair it with a set of 3 ohm Dyna coils or not if you prefer, you wont regret it and you wont need a second mortgage to procure same

Had Boyer fitted for a couple of years on my Z1000, but it failed this year. It was Ok when running, bike ran fine.

Have now fitted a Dyna-S after someone loaned me one to try - its more tidy option - no electronics box to fit somewhere. Bike runs fine on it.

Only an observation - bike does seem to start easier with the Dyna - doesn't need to spin as many times before firing up.

Thanks for the reply. Was looking to use the std Kwak coils, certainly initially, due to the extra cost.

I assume it is OK with the std Kwak coils?

I fitted Dyna S to mine last year. It was dead easy even for me! The bike has never ran better since i got it

Fitting is dead easy - there is a thread somewhere on the forum which details it and someone else asked recently, to which I also replied - you just need to create a couple of feet of 3 wire loom to extend the Dyna wires to connect with the ones under the tank.

Tick over and pick are both excellent - tick over is consistent and pick-up seems fine - no different than with the Boyer to be honest - just don't have the popping/banging on rolling off.

I fitted some new standard Kwak coils when I fitted the Boyer a couple of years ago and they still work great with the Dyna - nice strong spark.

Is not the lead that is supplied with the unit not long enough to to reach the connectors under the tank?

A bit of tricky threading job but the lead from the Dyna S will reach the connectors under the tank.

Needed to extend my wires from under the tank.

Dyna came with a couple of feet of wire - but unless I ran them straight up the side of the engine they wouldn't reach - to loom them in nicely behind the engine needed to create a small piece of 3 wire loom.

As others have found, yours might not need it.
