Have fitted a pair of Z Power std replacement rear suspension units and boy are they hard! They are crippling my back and I need something with a lot softer springs.

Does anybody know what the spring rate is of the std units are, which I doubt you can get softer springs for?

What are the alternatives as I don't want to spend a fortune as the bike is only used for gentle riding around?

Basic Hagons start at around the Â£150 mark, Â£180 if you want top spring covers. Are there and other alternatives with softer springs?

Have some Progressives on my Z1000 - bought them a year or two ago when a bit tight for money as a cheap replacement for some MoT failure ones. Think they where cheaper than the Hagons.

They look good, but are a bit soft for me and I think softer than the std's on my 900.

They might be for sale soon :wink:

when I get round to getting some piggy backs repaired or find some bargain Ohlins :shock:

I have Hagons on the 900 and I find them quite hard even on the softest setting

Thanks for the reply.

I was looking at the Hagons, as they are reasonably priced. However, that you find them hard even on the softest setting is a bit of a worry. When I spoke to them they advised that all their units are fitted as std with 110 lb in springs?

Not knowing what the spring rate is on the existing Z Power ones make it difficult to judge? Z Power don't know what the spring rate is of the units they supply, which is a bit disappointing.

I forgot to add that i have not had a bike with twin spring rear shocks for 17 years, then i doubt the springs were that good on my Mk2

I Had Z Power shocks on mine when I got it and had the same problem, far too hard.
I replaced with Hagons, they transformed the ride, and not too hard.

Which version did you go for and as far as you know were they the std springs supplied?

I have been down this road. The shocks I had (replacement from Z power) were very hard. This was due to a lot of damping on compression so regardless of spring setting, the damper couldnt compress quickly. I went back to a set of std genuine shocks & they are a great improvement up to about 70mph two up. Above that theyre not up to the job. I have dial a rides on my z1000 & have had them on several Z1's. Deffo recommended. Not experienced hagon twin shocks, but have a hagon mono on my FJ1100, very good shock with a massive operating range (ie solo or two up with luggage).

I don`t know what the spring rate is, standard as far as I know. Mine are the 35007 cc1 version. Also I wheigh about 13 stone with my bike kit on. Hope this helps.

I'm about the same at 13st kitted up so I will give the Hagon's a try. If they are no better then they can always go back.
