Today was a good day. The Asphalt Cowboy ran up for the first time. However, selecting the best of the 2 starters I have it is noticeably lazy. Spinning it up directly from a battery it all sounds good but I would suspect there is a problem within that means it doesn't have the power to spin the motor adequately.
I have seen an assembly which contains all the brushes and springs (genuine K) for sale at a reasonable cost.
I would appreciate any experience others have on rebuilding starters and their success in defeating a lazy starter motor.

That's very kind.
I do have one on my J if they are the same. I'm probably not in any rush as there are a couple of things holding me up at the mo.
Really it's experience of refurbishing I'm after and Paul J has some good suggestions. My first job was rebuilding starters so I'm familiar. It's just that these motors are so small I wondered if they are even worth doing.
Brush kit ordered now so at least I'll give it a go
