Z1A Clutch Problem

Hi
I stored my Z1A over the winter period and it was running just fine before I put it away. I was expecting that it would run the same when I took it out of storage. Everything was fine except for the clutch. I started the bike and put it into 1st gear and it jolted forward. I check the clutch cable and tried again and it jolted forward. I adjusted the cable but not matter what I did it just jolted forward. I adjusted the cable to the extreme both lengthing and then shorting but neither had any affect and it just jolted forward. Anyone got any ideas as to what my problem might be?

Your clutch plates are sticking. The first this I would try is to readjust the clutch to normal and do as you've been doing but with the front wheel against a wall. If that doesn't work after a couple of tries you'll need to pull off the clutch cover and rip out the plates, separate them and give each one a smear of oil. Throw it all back together and try again, where all should be well.

Pull the clutch put it in first gear and prod the kickstarter a few times until the plates release you may need to step on the back brake

A bit brutal this...and only done when the bikes were only worth a few hundred quid.
I'd put the wheel up against the wall...rev it to about 4k and just stamp on the gear pedal.
Usually did the trick.

Look through the oil filler you see the plates,it may be poss to carefully pry apart with broad bladed screwdriver,worked for me in past...

Like Keith says. Most of my zeds do it. I put mine on center stand. Start it up and put it in gear and with the wheel spinning Pull the clutch lever in and then gently stamp on the back brake pedal. It will free of. One of my z1a's did it almost every time I took it out.

Thanks everybody,
After warming up the bike I reved it up to 4000 rpm for a couple of secs and that did the trick. So it is running just fine, ran it up the road on it first run and it felt great now have to plan some trips.
