Anyone have any info on this? It's from a fellow Z owner looking for info on the following:
"A complete Z nut would appreciate some help.
Has anyone seen a Z1A engine with the numbers on the pad surface that look like it has been surface milled or stamped.
This relates to Z1A Engine Numbers~
As most Z1 nuts are aware, the Z1 had their engine number on a plain pad about 65mm long and this was continued thru to the Z1A, at least until about engine number Z1E 24600. Sometime later, they changed to a pad about 80 mm long with a raised border surrounding the pad.
The theory is: This type of Kawasaki Z1A engine number pad was the first of the 80 mm pads, produced somewhere around engine number Z1E 27500 - November 1973. It is thought that Kawasaki were endeavouring to make the pad more difficult to change, hence, make the engine more theft-proof. They, for some reason, dropped the concept shortly after they started it and settled for the border only, as the deterrent."
Any ideas??

could be a milling mark from the factory and wasnt spotted before stamping as theres little chance of the numbers being changed by some dodgy person if the borders are still there

Thanks, Sorf for the intro to the forum. Thanks Davey, Iain and Bogie-Man for the help with the pictures. Simple directions. I was a bit puzzled initially as I had to re-log in before submitting pictures. Also, I didn't risk having text with them or previewing. I'll get better with help!
Regarding these Z1A engine pads recently found (Z1E-27752 & Z1E-27771), Refer photos in message above. Anyone viewing them with any metal engineering knowledge or experience would agree that they are not "Dodgy" as one of your members suggests. Perhaps I misguided him by describing the surface as milled or stamped. A better description, and one that fits into the Kawasaki trait, is that the surface is similar if not slightly smaller as the background to the DOHC embossing on the alternator and point cover. (a series of small protrusions).
My only progression with finding more about these pads, was that a person at Kelen Kawasaki at Penrith NSW Australia, believes he has seen them before and I await a reply from Boltons in South Australia on their knowledge of these. (Boltons was the largest Kawasaki retailer of the Z1 series in 1972-1974)
It has been said before "Garn, get a life". However I just can't stop and I hope now you gentlemen having seen the evidence and surface I'm talking about, some interest will be stimulated!
