I run my z1 on castrol gtx and I have just topped it up with about 1/2 a litre of castrol magnatec by mistake is this going to matter over the next 3 or 400 miles before I change the oil next spring. Any one know?

Yeah some brands certainly dont. Turns into emulsified crap as soon as they touch.

I think its OK to mix synthetic/semi & normal mineral, its the Castor oils that MUST NOT be mixed with others, like good old Castrol R30/40... etc! There is a good 'oil' site somewhere out there in the ethernet... go GOOGLE it!

If the Magnatec is intended for use in cars it probably contains "friction modifiers" which can cause the wet clutch on a bike to slip, so even if the two oils are compatible you may still have problems.

As both products are made by Castrol you could drop them an e-mail and see what they think, but as others have said, you probably won't be happy until you've changed the oil.

?7 for filter, ?14 for a gallon of GTX. Drop it out and start afresh, at least you will not have that nagging doubt!
