I have searched the forum but cannot find any info on stripping the front forks on. my bros 74 z1a
Can anyone point me at a tutorial or a how to?

The problem is we need to remove the stansions but when the bottom bolt is loosened the damper rod is turning and i cannot find a way to restrain it whilst removing the bolt.
I have tried gripping the top of the rod by dropping a couple of extensions with a gorrila socket on but the rod still appears to be turning.
I thought i may be able to lock the rod by screwing a long bolt into the drain hole but that doesn't appear to work either.

Any info gladly accepted thanks in advance.

put them back together,go to a garage and use the air drill the percussion undoes em.or take the spring out ram a pointed broom handle down then try..i find the garage air drill is the best.there is also a tool you can buy.

As said put them back together and use an air or battery rattle gun and they come straight out.

Thanks for the quick replies, I have a compressor and a windy gun so i will give it a go tomorrow.

I used a piece of 15 mm copper pipe tap it into the end and it will stop the assembly turning, I have used it on my Z1300 and Z900 with no problems, same goes for reassembly.

Broom handle trick usualy works

I used a couple of long 1/2 "socket extension bars and a rachet. The extensions fit perfectly into the tube and then you use a rachet etc to undo the bolt. No need for special tools.

I got them out but the end of the damper tube is a round solid end so the insert idea won't work,
the whole lot still spun round with the windy gun solution,
so i resorted to the 15mm copper pipe i flattened the end and jammed it in the gap at the side of the round tube end and it stopped the tube turning while the bolts were removed.

so job done and thanks for the help.

While there apart knock up a rig to stop the assembly turning when you put the forks back together.
