Hi, can anyone tell me what type of black paint to use on my engine point`s, alternator cover behind the ( D.O.H.C.) lettering.Would it be normal matt black,or does it after to be heat resistant.

Consensus seems to be the paint should be satin rather than gloss. You'll probably find Humbrol enamel will stay on there, but make sure you strip the old stuff off good and clean through with cellulose thinners prior to painting. It's best to splash it all over, then wipe off excess with white spirit/lighter fluid - gives a cleaner stop line at lettering edges.

As the engine casings are ally won't they need to be sprayed with an etch primer first? I know that on aircraft, the painters always sprayed everything a piss green colour before the proper paint.

That being said how does lacquer stick? or is there special lacquer for alloy that contains and etch?

Perhaps we have a paint guru on here?

All bare metal, be ally it or steel should be etched.
You can get it either in a erosole or for a spray gun.
Etch primer for polished work is clear, I don't now much about this as I've
never used it.

I have used Humbrol to highlight the lettering on my bike and our kids and it looks good and stays on. I would agree that if spraying the whole casing then an etch primer would be needed, but because all that you are doing is highlighting the letters and the back ground is textured so holds the paint anyway, then etching is not necessary.
To get the correct satin look I mixed a Humbrol gloss and a matt together which made a satin finish (couldnt get a Humbrol satin). Heat is not an issue.
