Squealing starter clutch. Big issue? Difficult to fix?

Get it sorted sooner rather than later. My starter gear worked loose & sounded like a knackered crank!!!! The starter ring is attached to the rotor (the rotors attached to the ham bone... etc) which is a soft alloy/zinc affair!? If this stays loose for any time it wears fast and needs replacing. Whip off the starter casing and have a good look. There shouldn't be any movement of the rotor and only a bit of radial motion of the starter mechanism as it engages.

Get the cover off and have a butchers as Pigford says.I've fixed a few where the starter clutch is coming away from the rotor (Z1000J).
Is the noise continuous or only when you use the starter??
