Brake pistons?

What's the idea of having small round bricks in your brake pistons? Just wondering, as the brick bit sits slightly proud of the piston, and will be in direct contact with the pad.
I hope I haven't got the wrong pistons

they are for dispersing heat when they introduced metal sintered pads from about 78/79 onwards

Ah I see. Thanks for that

Not for dispersing heat -- but to prevent heat transfer by conductance to brake fluid - by isolating the metal piston from pad backing metal using a poor heat conducting material
