I have rebuilt my smoking z250 over christmas, the problem it turned out were worn rings! anyway, the problem I have now is with the ignition, it wont fire properly on two cylinders, the left side just will not do as it is told, I noticed today that when its going on one cylinder, when I remove the plug cap on the miss behaving side, and hold it 6mm or so from the plug, hey presto it fires perfectly, put it back on and it cuts out again, help its going to raise my blood pressure to a level that is not good

HELP

By holding plug cap away you are forcing a higher voltage to jump the gap and hence fire the plug, try swapping coil and ht lead and plug from good cylinder and see if prob moves to right hand cylinder will prove if you have oneof the three components faulty,,

make sure the points wire isn't touching the inside of the points cover or the points back plate if it will jump an 8mm gap without the plug cap fitted its possibly a plug cap?

Well, I changed the plug cap, no diff, changed coil, no diff, replaced points and checked for wire short, no diff, even changed the condenser, no diff, changed the plug for another I had laying around, nope, pulling my hair out I went through all the connections, nope, swapped the plugs over and hey presto, fault moved over, its the feckin plug, changed it with my spare, still the fault, I can only assume both plugs were duff, swapped them back and the fault went with it, new plugs to order, I hope thats it gggrrrrrrrr.

Yep, I spoke to the guys from NGK at the nec show about fakes and they are fully aware of the amount of poor quality fake plugs on the market, the advice I got was.... always buy from a approved stockist at the recognised price,,,,,,and make sure its genuine packaging!

I've always run NGK , but recently having had so much trouble with my Z1B i switched to Denso 's .
Admittedly i've probably caused some problems with buying cheap NGK's off Eblag .
Bit dear the Denso's but immediately better .
I'm sure it's not just the placebo effect of new plugs .

Man i cant believe the problems i am having with ignition. one minute everything fine and starts on the push of a button or a kick.
Now it wont start.
So frustrating .
Battery holding over 12v
Checked the timing and good.
Hard wired the coils to bypass the switch nothing.
I checked the volts at the joint where the yellow and orange cable splits off to the coils and it drops to 9v which i'm sure is wrong. if i disconnect the 2 leads from the connector the bolts go up.
Any ideas??
