A4 frame reflectors

#1 PostAuthor: floydsz1 » Fri Dec 26, 2014 2:38 pm

Did the UK z900 A4 have the yellow frame reflectors fitted on the frame under the front of the tank ( steering damper mount) on UK models. I've seen pictures of them with and without them. Thanks.

From what I have read, the reflectors were fitted to the small mounts under the front of the tank on the Z900, and KZ900.

The aren't damper mounts, they are reflector mounts.

Hi Richard. I thought they're not damper mounts but I've seen people use them to fix the damper too the frame. It's just I've seen pictures in some mags/brochures with and without the reflectors. Thanks .

I'm not sure about your bike, but I'm pretty sure that on the Mk2, those reflectors were only on the US bikes along with the ones on the tails piece, but not the European ones. Might be worth trawling for old pictures of European bikes to check if yours should have them. I'm sure someone will know.

Side reflectors were definitely not fitted to UK bikes as standard. They are an American thing ! People started to fit them I guess because they liked them/thought they looked different/etc/etc. Bit like the short rear mudguard !!

This subject has always been a debate area.

Did they, didn't they???

As far as I know the US ones were fitted as it was a Dept of Transport regulation.
A bit like our type approval I suppose.

I've photos of what look like UK spec ones (long mudguard, seat strap etc) with reflectors and also some without. I know USA ones have to have them but i don't remember any of the UK ones i had in the 70's and 80's having them and they were definitely UK ones.
I've put the long mudguard back on philsA4 and taken the reflectors off

Bought my bike new on 5th May 1976 & like I said, they (i.e. UK bikes) definitely did not come with side reflectors.
They only had a red reflector on the bottom of the rear mudguard because it was no longer incorporated into the rear light lens.

Thanks guys. That's exactly how it is now. Only got the red one on the back.
Just another thought why on my z1b is there only one mount ( on the right hand side). This has a kawasaki steering damper fitted to it.

When I got my A4, it had reflectors underneath the tank, but they had lost there sparkle, and not orange anymore, so time for a freshen up.. I put some gt750 reflectors on, as they have a chrome effect edge, and I had them anyway.. But the big question is.. To reflect or not reflect?.. kawasaki/ gt reflectors? Up to you...

Only reflector on a UK bike is the single one on the long rear guard. UK bikes didn't have the reflectors on the rear light lens like the pic above either.
