Just about to order a Wiseco 1170 kit for my 1100 Unitrak Harris motor.
Should I go for the K1172 High Compression 10.25:1 or the more standard K1173 9.5:1 kit?
...or to put it another way; any known issues with the 10.25:1 ?
TIA

I have the 10.25 in my ELR and have no problems with it, although they do get very warm. Just bought another set for my new project off Grumpy's 1260

Just back of the ignition a bit if you're worried. A bit of retard will allow it to run a little cooler.

				With my old Z1000 with Wiseco 1075 - 10.25:1 was a bit
lively even with Super unLeaded... it always pinked a bit no matter what you did with the ignition - and I had a Dyna 2000 so I could have it very accurate

Best UK price I've found for a K1172 is BigCC Racing who want ~ £470
On EBay there's Item 231285625526 which would work out at ~ £400
I'm going to order from Jeff @ Z1Enterprises who's halfway between those prices or maybe less if HMCRE are feeling overworked
FYI, Jeff did note that Wiseco price rises tend to happen on the 1st Jan so ordering now might be a good idea.

I had pinking issues with the high comp 1170 wisecos as well, ended up having the tops of the pistons machined smoother by Mistral engineering in North London, he said twas a common problem. Mind you it was 20 year ago so they may have changed the design since then.

It
IS relatively high with modern crap pump-fuel...... and pinking can be an issue.
Ray has run Zed motors at +50degs advanced ignition out of interest

Must be me i'm presuming you use bigger carbs, dialled in high lift cams, big valves, ported head, electronic ignition, super unleaded, single plug head like i do...or just try more retard

I had the head flowed, big valves, Ape. 410" lift cams, CR 33mm carbs. It puts out approx 120 bhp at the back wheel (All the work done by Alan Cooper at Kipkawa)

				Thanks for the input chaps.
I've gone for the 10.25:1 as although there were some negative comments nobody actually said they'd blow up one's motor, burn down the house, rape chickens and bite the heads off virgins
I'll run super-unleaded and even a dollop of octane booster (this is for my Harris Magnum so I'll not be touring on it!) and see how I go.

Mine was gas flowed head, std cams, RS36 carbs (which are NOT too big!) and she pinked a bit at wider "laboured" throttle openings at lower revs .... but did that for the 10 yrs I owned her with no problems.... also had a fair bit of thrashing at the 1/4 mile, etc
