engine studs

I can't find much info regarding the cylinder/cylinder head studs.

I assume they need thread lock on them, but how tight do they need to be. The manual doesn't mention how to fit them, or torque figures.

If using std studs, Just screw them in up to the shoulder, lightly nip them up with some Loctite applied.
If using APE studs etc with no shoulder you need to apply Loctite and screw them in to the required heights.
Use a spare head nut with a ball bearing inside to nip up the studs , it's quicker and better than locking two nuts together.

I do have a recollection from reading through various threads on here, of setting them to the correct height, and something to do with a ball bearing, so got a bit confuzzled.

We sell studlock, so consider one of those nicked :)
