Is it usually necessary to renew the half moon rubbers when removing the cam cover ?
When replacing them, do I need to seal them in with anything in particular?

Best to remove, clean with brake cleaner slightly roughen mating surface with emery paper clean again and use Rtv silicon(Halfords) smear a bit on both surfaces leave a while to go off 10 mins or so ,put back in to half moons and compress down when you replace cam cover and gasket....Paul J

You can't polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter

Better still replace them with billet ally ones from Debbens, bit of RTV and they never leak. get em in black and they look smart and v close to original.
I have heard some folk say they had to file the billet caps a touch to get them to fit, but mine went straight in, may be that they have used different manufacturer from those sold by Ray Debben.
