I got my Z1R sticker set from Imageworks.

Paint was done by a local chappie who's since retired so that's no help to you.

Peter I entrusted Hutchy to do both of mine, he matched the paint and had the correct shade of decals made, and its an excellent job I can send you pictures if you wish

I think that might be my Shed's paintwork on the Flying Tiger website. Simon took a bit of time over the job, but the results were excellent.

Z1R painting in stardust silver

#11 PostAuthor: Peter K. » Thu Dec 11, 2014 9:41 pm

Hi,

THX for your hints. Yes I know all these paint-chaps here
in Germany but it is quite expensive and also it takes
very long time.

Is there a colour code available or is it possible to
buy the paint mixed for self spraying ?!?

A friend of mine could probably do it also ....

@ Keith-Z1R
Can you please show some pics of yours here ?!?

THX.

My (retired and I no longer have any contact details for him) painter came up with a colour swatch called "Kawasaki Stardust Silver" IIRC that was spot on.

I don't know what paint manufacturer it was but at least you know that someone out there does it.

Good luck Peter, here are my thoughts.

Regarding the Stardust Silver paint. I would just buy it from RS Paints. You can rely on it being perfectly accurate. They are the ONLY company who have the formulars for many of the Kawasaki bikes and they match, EXACTLY. No one can make this any better. It's right and right is right. No Doubt.
Z1R Stardust Silver

Regarding the actual painting.
I know we are lucky to have some specialist sprayers who are very good. The complex paint schemes on the Z1-Z1B require a certain level of skill and attention to detail.

However, after the Z1, ALL paint sets use just one base colour with stick on decals applied over the uniform base. - No masking. - No custom finishes - No judgement. Just very standard, everyday spraying of one uniform colour.....
If you have the correct colour from RS, ANY reasonably competent spray shop anywhere in the world will be able to spray this for you equally as well and paying for a 'specialist' painter will add no value to it what so ever, unless, like some, it is important to you to report here that it was 'xyz' who did your very standard uniform one colour paint..

With the paint being a very standard affair, what will make the difference is getting good decals and applying them properly. I would look closely at photos of each option you find and decide which you think most authentic. Find lots of stock images to ensure correct placement. Then either do it yourself or print some photos off for our sprayer to look at before he fits the decals.

I don't think so I used rs paints in Barnsley and thought it was ok until I spoke with hutch and gave him my tin

Image

rs paint has too much fleck in it & hutch re-mixed it to the correct shade this is after I sent them a brand new tank to copy from that had not seen the light of day .
if u hold one of my tanks painted from rs paint turn it to a different light its shade is all wrong my advice is see hutch to be spot on.

if Hutch can mix it, then why not someone else? Or does he have the world monopoly on correctly mixing paint?
