Were the original Z1 4 into 4 exhausts of the double skinned type?
It seems like all the current replacements, Doremi etc are only single skinned? Does this mean that you are likely to end up with the header/downpipes discoloring?

YES to both.

The main reason for the discolouring is running the carbs too lean.

Getting the correct set up. Timing, fuel, air etc preferably by a reputanle tuner on a dyno will sought out that problem

I agree absolutely.
The single skin headers can help to pinpoint an issue.

Don't let a garage set up your carbs unless your e there, shut off the engine after a couple of minutes and cool, also tip from the classic car community, flood the internals of the pipes with well used engine oil and drain out surplus. I did both of the above and pipes are perfect. Oil burns off and leaves a protective coat, I also bought .2 tins of heat dispersant paint and emptied them down the headers and let dry before doing the oil. doing nothing will probably result in some form of yellow or bluing , if it doesn't that's good but I wouldn't take the risk
