Hi
I'm just about to start rebuilding the z900
And I would like to change the old bolts for stanless steel hex
Where is the best place to buy from
I know the rear shock bolts are m10 x 35mm but the ones I have bought are threaded all the way

Screwfix do a fair bit of stainless fasteners.
I've bought loads of stuff from them in the early days.
I have noticed their prices have went up a lot.
I'm sure the rear shock bolts you mention are metric fine.

We have a good supplier in York called Fastpack. You can buy normal bolts and file the raised letters off and then polish them up.
Have a search around for a supplier in your area.

I carried out a complete resto of my A4 using stainless from these

For price, quality (already polished - no mucking about filing heads), speed of delivery and the ability to buy variable quantities I think they are great. I referred to them when posting the rebuild in the Projects section.

If you end up buying SS bolts that you're going to file the stampings off the heads of...make sure they are 316 grade, lesser grade WILL rust where you file.

Whilst I agree with Paul originals re-zinc'd/chromed are best - I like the look of the polished stainless bolts, so long as you get good quality - they don't tarnish or rust.
This is where I get mine from

I have rebuilt a few cars, but this is my first bike, so this may be nonsense.
Some of the bolts used in cars have to be high tensile, stainless ones will NOT do at all. Not sure if there are any HT bolts on the Z1 though

VERY VALID POINT.
A stainless bolt of A4 80 grade has LESS tensile strength than a steel bolt of 8.8 grade!!!!
A4 70 is WAY BELOW that.
