Z1-R Oil Filter Removal - How Difficult Was This ??

Hello There,

Factory exhaust does not seem to allow for oil filter removal :?:

I could not get the oil filter, plate and bolt off for a service unless I lowered the standard collector box by loosening the header pipes and releasing the two rear collector box mounting bolts..

Considered de-mounting number 3 header pipe from cylinder head and collector box instead but it did not look like it would make enough room.

I do not have the Z1-R Kawa Service Manual - but is this really how you are supposed to do it. Didn't seem to be enough clearance any other way.

Any advice or tips for next time appreciated.

There is no need to lower the collector box pull the centre bolt out of the filter/ plate assembly and everything clears the box. Replacement is in reverse order watch where the spring and washer go !

I must admit to having always taken the exhaust off complete- Otherwise I would end up with oil everywhere!

While it's off - give the collector box a quick going over with a wire brush and a quick spray of VHT paint.

It doesn't take that long and helps keep the collector box from disappearing in a pile of rust!
Cheers

IMO you are better off taking the complete zorst off, (although they do weigh a ton), if not it can get a little messy and as kev says, you can check out the zorst at the same time
cheers freddy :D
