Don't want to hijack the other weak spark thread but need some help please...
Continuing problems with Daves (aka Zeddy site member) z650....I cant keep pushing it... See out and about postings...I will update it later with more recent pics from yesterday...also more importantly we want to go out to play with the Kent triples club boys on their ride out next weekend so.....
The bike in question is a z650 b2 us import...so is rigged up to have the lights on permanently (maybe relevant maybe not)
There appears to be two ish related problems...one starting/lumpy running and another the battery charging/retaining charge.
The bike is running dyna coils and Boyer ignition (were on bike when purchased 5 plus years ago) and newly fitted plugs (plug on pot 3 was duff) new Taylor leads (old ones were from two different sets) and a new motobat battery.
Bike often starts well on kickstart from cold but rubbish when hot and bogs down when pulling away from junctions.
Questions
1 It looks like the lh coil may have an issue...can anyone explain this please..with caps on plugs pots 2 and 3 don't run well...pull the caps off so the spark arcs from the cap to the plug and it runs fine...we have another set of dynas so will replace lh coil here but I don't understand how or what's happening there???
2 Something appears to be draining the battery...tester shows it is putting enough out to charge the battery...we did a 49 ish mile round trip yesterday but when back not enough in it to use electric start...would not restart at all using kickstart either...battery boost pack and turns over on electric start fine and fires up...any ideas please?
3 Has anyone done the wired George upgrade in a z650? Any photos please? Is there any threads on the site from anyone that's done it on z900's etc? Where did you get the parts from?
Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions my c3 is running fine but I would hate for zeddy to embarrass himself next weekend in front of those triples club boys on a ride out!

If you suspect a coil you should be getting the bad effect on 1 + 4 pots or 2 + 3 pots.
If so swap the coils over and if the problem moves you have isolated the fault.
Make sure you have 12v at least going across your coil when ignition is on. Check all block and bullet connectors on the circuit and kill switch for furry/ dirty or overheating signs and clean em up.
My 650 produced 12v at coils without wired George on standard points, repro coils and Yuasa battery. But I have heard good reports on the mod from others.
You can do checks on the regulator, rectifier, generator, coils etc. using info from the Kawa Service Manual I have stuck for download here. There is also an owners underseat manual for B1 and B2 to download if you need that.
Also a link to a large color wiring diagram you can print out for tracing the circuits by wiring colors etc.

Good luck from Mark
