what weighting fork oil should I use for 1977 z1000A1 ?

thanks, I have some 15w but suppose that will make the damping heavier ??

you can use 15w if that is what you have

Put 10W in my 900's forks after rebuild , a fortnight later drained it out and replaced with 15W , happier with it now .

I always put a higher weight in 15w/20w instead of 10w. ( is that because I'm fat )

There appears to be an additional plug under the actual top cap on each upper fork, with a recessed square locator to take a 1/4 inch extension bar, which is not mentioned in either the Clymer or the Haynes manuals. But how do you get that out ?? The upper forks are none standard as the take a air assisted mechanism for pumping up the forks and the top caps have holes in them which has allowed water in to the top of these plugs with the square recess, so are very rusted up. I clearly need to get these out in order to be able to fill with new fork oil.

Any input much appreciated.

Hi chris, I've not seen the 1/4" plugs , but I've taken out several 1/2" plugs( I think the
1/2" ratchet end is what I've used ) BE CAREFUL, the plug is under 'load',i. e. the fork spring is compressed under it.
if it's the same as I've done you simply undo the plugs with the ratchet, they are essentially a 'bolt' (threaded).

Freddy many thanks. They are indeed 1/2 inch ratchet bar ends and badly ceased due to the holes in the caps letting in water. I have soaked them with a depth of WD40.

Not sure why they are mentioned in the manuals though ?

Also do you need a special tool to compress the fork springs when try to reassemble ?
