Almost finished rebuilding my z1300. Connected the battery, ignition lights come on, pressed the starter switch. Nothing.
Everything looks to be connected, I'm rubbish with electrics, where do I start?

Short across the solenoid with an insulated driver see if she turns over and starts,if so see if you have power going to the small wires on the solenoid if so suspect faulty solenoid if not usual suspect is the kill switch or starter button, get hold of circuit diagram and trace the wiring if not,get a good colour diagram and be methodical..Good luck Paul J

Does it have a clutch switch?.....

It should have a clutch switch, but it's missing. The bike was running fine before I stripped it down for rebuilding.
Been at it all day, if I hadn't spent so much on the bleeding thing I would do a Basil Fawlty on it.
Am I downhearted?
Well just a little.

Going to have a little drink now, medicinal purposes you understand. Yes, I know alcohol won’t solve your problems. But I can have fun while I try. So any postings made by me between now and bed time are guaranteed to make no sense whatsoever. On account of me being a bit rat arsed.
No change there then.

Might , just might be the kill switch.. I would trace the wire from the switch, might go into the headlight, or back of the clocks ( just guessing on this one) and should be a connector block, unplug it, and take a look at the contacts... Spray some wd40 in both sides, re connect and try again.. Failing that, you will need a meter, and test the wires coming from the switch, kill switch on... And off, and see if you get a circuit, if not it's the switch... And take it off and send it to me, for a strip down, and might be the contacts inside it..that's if you don't get it sorted. I have refurbished.. Kawasaki, Suzuki, Laverda switches, but not a z1300 yet, what's the saying.. There's a first time for everything.. Thanks ..

Check th seat lock as Z1B Man writes as it acts as an immobiliser
When turned to open the seat key needs to be in the horizontal position for start up.

Any news on this then, was it the seat switch?

The saga continues, not much further forward today.
If I put a screwdriver across the starter solenoid terminals the engine turns over. I have power to the, on off, switch on the handlebars, but no power to the starter switch. I have checked all the connections and they seem to be ok. I’ve got a side light indicators rear light but no headlight.
I don’t know if it will start because I have not fitted the petrol tank yet.
It's not the seat switch, I know about that, it was running before I dismantled it.
Still resisting the urge to do a Basil Fawlty on it.
