Pingel Fuel Tap
The seal at the tank is fine, it's the seal in the lever
that is the problem. I bought
it from a friend who gave up trying to get it to seal
from brand new, so it's not age related.

Pingel Fuel Tap
It's only a ballvalve, dead easy to do, couldn't believe how simple it is, just make sure you put a bit of lube( petroleum jelly, vasoline ) Not vicks vapour rub as my mate once used, showing off as he changed his sons nappy!! I can do this no probs he said, he now wears glasses!! So yep, beautifully engineered are Pingels, and easy to service, unlike Harleys which come from the same country

So why do you think it's leaking? From brand new!!!
Does one just drift the tap lever out and out springs
it's ball valve, then lube it as you advised?

Mike, this tap leaks too much so I'll need to repair it rather than
relying on it to self sealing.

No that's what I thought but its deceiving don't drift out lever remove the gauze then push downwards lever stays attached no need to disturb, the sharp edges do wear but the 'o'rings seal each side of the ball, top and bottom not the lining up holes. I have actually got my paint work back after two and years so I'll strip mine out and check for you before I rebuild it.Jay1969 wrote:So why do you think it's leaking? From brand new!!!

Pingel Fuel Tap
Hi Jay,
here goes, mine is an ally item which is the older type as I bought a new one for Rexy1000 but will have same internals, looks like I'll need a new one for the Z1075ST as I've just noticed a crack around brass fuel outlet, but separation is as I previously stated, remove from adaptor plate, & place in a soft jaw vice, not fouling lever or brass outlet remove screen and a light tap with a small rubber mallet will push the assembly through, you should then be able see the o rings in their two locations, hope this enlightens you and helps, I am still not compus mentus about putting piccies on, or else I would have shown it in bits for you, I had to ask my wife how to put piccies on f##kbook as I call it.

Cheers gpjes , I'll try and repair it myself - I'll post pictures to show what I've learnt so far
a bit later once I've finished sorting out oil leaks on the rubber cam end plugs (replacing them with billet ally plugs).

gpjes,
Below are pics of this Pingel Fuel Tap.
I tried removing the gauze filter to no avail, I even drifted the lever out,
and still it doesn't dismantle.

Hi Jes,
Here's the video showing the used Pingel Fuel Tap - http://youtu.be/AQjp-rsYGfI
It screws straight on to the tank, but it won't unscrew from the tap and
the gauze won't remove either. Yours being the earlier alluminium model
dismantles and is serviceable?
The chromed brass nut on this Pingel Fuel Tap is chewed (was when I was first got it),
so I can see why given that if it's not serviceable, my friend gave up with it.
