Hello,

has anyone out there got one of those clamp type Ammeters and could do me a favor ??

I'm trying to find out the current draw of a Z1000 Starter Motor so if anyone could test that for me please ???

And the rating of the Starter Relay ??

I'm looking at quick release Cable connectors and they go up to 75A but they are a bit big. The Cables are rated at 100A as I remember.

Ta muchly

Howie

Howie, I was waiting to see what answer you received?
Some of the "sparkies" on here, must be able to give some estimates.
I know they draw a fair bit of current, however, I think it's got to be less than 20Amp, otherwise fuse would blow!

No answer yet

More than 20A though as it's wired directly from the battery through the Starter Relay.

Like the Garn name BTW, reminds Smee of that great joke :D

number of factors will affect measured draw - will depend on engine tune ( high comp will draw more ) and temperature ( cold oil thicker more drag ) would expect in region of 70 - 100 amps pp

Why do you ask ? what aew you trying to achieve ?

So .

finaly had a chance to bodge up the wiring for a test and the result is 20 to 90A cranking with a stone cold engine, Spark Plugs in.
