hi all ,just checking valve clearances on my kz900 and found ,
all inlet where 0.10 mm,
exhaust 1&2 are 0.10mm ,3 is 0.15mm ,and 4 is 0.80mm.
question, should inlet and exhaust clearances be different? i thought i read somewhere here that inlet is 0.10mm and exhaust is 0.15 mm
many thanks in advance guys

all should be at 0.05mm to 0.10mm.

I should have also said that i'd tend to err toward 0.10mm as they tend to close up rather than open up.

In a later tech bulletin, Kawasaki changed the range from 0.05mm-0.10mm (2-4 thou) and moved the upper end of the range to 0.15mm (6 thou).
I try to set mine around 0.10mm and will opt for the wider rather than tighter if I'm stuck between sizes.
Don't set them too tight. With the Z1 style engines, the valve/valve seat wear is greater than any wear on the shim or cam lobe. This means the clearances shrink with wear. So if you set them at 0.10mm, the next time you check you may not get a feeler gauge under the cam.
