Any tips on how to prevent more of that rust proofing treatment
peeling off inside the tank?
Recently had fuel starvation problems and suspected it was due to that
stuff that is used to line the inside of tanks to prevent corrosion, drained the
fuel and sure enough, the gauze filter on the petcock was bunged up
with the darn stuff.

I'll take the tank over to a friends to get it blown through with an airline,
anyone know of anything that can shift the lining treatment before I refit
the tank and refill with fuel again?

if its petseal this company do a product specially to remove it

I tried that stuff and it does remove most of the sealant took a couple of times to do the trick though,cellulose thinners can work but needs care with tank paint...

go online,to rustbusters,,,theres some stuff called as10,,it removes it all,dont get any on the paint itl remove that as well,then clean out the tank then re seal..

Thanks for the advice guyz, I won't re-seal it with any of that stuff though
as I'd rather just drain the tank over winter storage than go through the hassle and detriment to the carbs.

As already reccomended by Paul the TCP stuff is brilliant. It is an involved process, but follow the instructions exactly and it will come out great. Just be wary the tank may have been sealed the first time round because of a fuel leak? Corrosion/pinholes?

it has been sealed for a reason if you don't seal it you will have constant problems with the carbs flooding or the bike not running properly. even bikes with minimal rust it will find its way through as many filters as you can put on it. seal it & no more problems

If you are confident your tank is structurally sound, you can get the inside bead blasted. "Oh no!!!"

Not sure how much it would cost but cant cost that much. I've done several myself and it's like a new tank afterwards - obviously you keep the pressure down to a minimum.

Mask off the exterior meticulously, then cover with gaffer tape. when all the rust is out there is no problem with the media, it blows out easily and a few rinses with petrol, poured into a coffee filter will confirm it's clean. good as new.
I attach a length of aquarium tube to my blasting tube, taped to a stiff bit of fence wire so I can direct it inside the tank. Fix the ceramic nozzle in the end of the aquarium tube. very effective. I use fine glass bead.

How much would you charge for this service, or do only service your

sorry Jay, I've dismatled my blasting cabinet now and haven't done any for over a year. You could probably find someone locally.
