More (any!) stopping power for Z1R

#1 PostAuthor: Grog » Tue Jun 03, 2014 8:27 am

Folks;

In the process of refurbing the Z1R, and looking for ideas for improved stopping power for the front. I've already sorted the master cylinder malarkey - a Fireblade remote setup works a treat and looks neat (except there's nowhere to put a RH mirror now, ho hum..) and was hoping someone might point me in the direction of a better set of calipers without major bracketry being involved. So - any easy solutions that won't cost the earth? All ideas gratefully received.

Cheers

Grog, (I love that name!).

Not being a Z1R type myself, my knowledge is somewhat limited.

I was going to suggest changing the truly hideous front brake set up, but you've already (sensibly) done that.

I would have thought that alone would have made a HUGE difference??

Believe me mate, it does! But you know how it is, once one bit is sorted the urge to tinker doesn't go away... Just curious as to whether something off a newer model might fit.

Harrison billet 4 ,s
Bolt straight on and worth the extra money.
Adapting and making brake brackets is a world of hassle!

GPz900R calipers also bolt straight on.
I take it you've fitted Double H pads :?:
If not, fit sintered pads and see what difference that makes.
I fitted HH (sintered) pads to the Saxon and reckon braking power was improved by about 35% which is a massive improvement.
OK you will have to wash your front wheel a bit more often due to increased brake dust, but that's a small price to pay for safety and piece of mind. :!:
Here's what you would require if you're going to try sintered pads...

Folks;

Like the idea of Harrisons, may have to raid the piggy bank at some stage but will have a look at GPz stuff also. Fluff - HH pads sat on the shelf ready to go, so high hopes for those! Then of course, extra stopping may mean extra suspension. Progressive springs anyone, or any better ideas? Already running slightly heavier fork oil.

Cheers

Yes they're the ones. I fitted some of these to my Moto Martin, that had standard wire wheels too, so they should go straight on.
Made a huge improvement to my bike!
