Coil help needed

#1 PostAuthor: loonix » Fri May 23, 2014 5:49 pm

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a coil issue ive been trying to get my head around...

I'm in the middle of sorting out a badly custom built z1b with a Gpz1100 a3 engine fitted, lots and lots of things were done very badly,
one being the wiring.

I have got a new z1 loom complete from z-power and ive come to the coils,
the bikes ignition is utilizing the a3's cdi box and pickups, but the way it was wired up begged belief, bell wire of all things half assed-ly twisted and taped to the cdi wiring, but it did run!

firstly the coils i have on the bike are tek kp02's
my first question would be about the polarity of the LT .... the poles are not labeled + or -

One pole is green and the other black, i am assuming that the black pole is positive and the green the switch,,, but i have had some say that it doesn't matter !.... is that true ?

The other question is ..... Whilst removing the awful wiring and upon disconnecting the coils i noticed a resistor soldered to one of the LT poles
Any reason that a resistor would be there ?
Will these coils be suitable for the a3 ?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the club...

poles on coils don't matter....
resistor could have been something for an electronic tacho/rev limiter? only a guess
