Right then peeps, are you sitting comfortably, then I will begin...
All questions relate to my GPz1100 B something?
Oil Pressure switch,
Where is it, and how can you test it? (see I start with an easy one just to warm you up) I have checked the bulb/lamp and replaced it with a new bulb/lamp to be sure, but it doesn't light up with the ignition on, I have also checked the wire colours against a Canadian wire diagram I found online, and they match up, and the bulb/lamp is plugged into the right socket in the instrument cluster.
So that should give you all the info I have.

Part Two...
Right then now the next question, this should give you something to do while the boss isn't watching...
My bike is an 81 which should make it a B1, but when did they change to B2's, could you still have 81 but as a B2? and what were the design differences (this should sort the men from the boys)
Here are a couple of pictures of the front end of my bike, all of it appears to be B2 to me, am I right or wrong?
Ok what do you think...
more pictures can be seen here...

1/ blue/red, back of cylinder block white plastic thing with wire going to top, earth lead and it should light, if it doesn't the problems with wiring.
2/ Pass but B2 in the manual shows a fairing, try Z Power website or KZOwners!
3/ Mikuni flatslides, take carb off and measure the bore, 34mm at engine side, those may be 36

Those clocks are not B1 or B2, they are Z1000R/1100R/J3 clocks. The B1 clocks are a lot bigger than those fitted to your bike (sometimes likened to a swiss roll)the B2 clocks have the same style casing as those fitted but the fuel gauge is a lcd block affair with a battery charge indicator. These clocks may have a different internal wiring to the originals (would have to look at wiring diagram to be sure). If it turns out that you need B2 clocks to rectify this I may have a set to swap with you.

Thanks Rich, so it is a B1 going by frame number, so what should the clocks look like? can someone post a picture or e-mail me, also as it is a B1, then it has the wrong yokes and bars then? but that raises the question what should the front of an 81 B1 look like, faired/un-faired, round or oblong light, indicators?
Do any of you have any links to show me, or any pictures that would be correct to year.
Thanks.

The B1 front end is un-faired and has a rectangular headlamp. It has the same forks as the J1/J2 with un-linked air assistance and conventional handlebars as opposed to the clip-on/bolt-on type as per the B2.
The B1 clocks are much bigger than the B2 type.
If you speak to Steve (Big Green Bus) he might be able to email you a picture of some B1 clocks so you know what's what.
Classic Mechanics also did a readers restoration feature on the GPz1100B1 and this issue featured the bike on the front cover. There's usually a copy on ebay for sale or it maybe available direct as a back issue..
Also be aware that GPz1100B1 front brake discs are 270mm and GPz1100B2 are 280mm.the fork bottoms are aslo slightly different between the two models to provide clearance for the larger discs.

Hi Kev,by un-linked i mean that there is no balance pipe between the fork legs to equalize the pressure.
The B2 model has a balance pipe link which sits just above the bottom fork yolk.
One thing i forgot to mention,is that the B1 clocks have an electronic speedo and the B2/Z1000J3 style of clocks are cable driven.
If you wanted to convert to B1 clocks you will also need the electronic speedo drive for the front wheel.
The whole electronic speedo idea proved to be pretty un-reliable and the idea was scrapped after the GPz1100 and Z1000J1/J2.

Hi Jack thanks for taking the time, is this the bit you are on about, just above the bottom yoke, with a knurled cap on one side....
if so, then it would appear that my bike is either a transition model from B1 to B2 ? or it has had a major frontal at some time and has been rebuilt with all B2 front end minus clocks? I will measure the disks later.
Where do I find the engine number on one of these?
