horns

both wiers to the horns are live on my z1100r when you press the switch no sound . when you press the switch shoud it earth one of the wires .
both horns work tested direct to the battery

Yes, it should earth through the handlebar switch/handlebar. It'll only work when the switch is bolted up.

so why does the headlight flash when not bolted up .i guess it works the same way as the horn

it should work with the switch open the horn button has one earth in=black/yellow & one to the horns = black when the horn button is pressed these two wire are shorted

there is a black /white and brown wire going to the horns

the brown is permanently live when the ignition is switched on. the black & white is the earth from the switch when the horn button is pressed

if i put a seperate live/earth to the brown - black/ white the horn work so that says to me the switch is faulty but i have tryed anther rocker switch on the 2 wires and the horns do not work .if you put one of the wiers from the rocker switch on the brown then on the red and black the horns will work when you operate the rocker switch .

what happens when you short the two wires that go to the horn button? horn button is the most likely cause bad contact on the button is quite common

if nothing happens when you short these two wires you must have a break or bad connection in one of these wires
