Who knows what (sound) insulation material goes around the spool in the air-box silencer pictured below? Seem to think it was foam rubber, could be paper?
I seem to remember seeing the spool with paper on it assembled, called a filter, on eBay... Never followed it up!

G, I'm just supplying the dimensions and someone else decided to make one... If it works, i get his know-how and proceed with one myself.
I could imagine it being a fire hazard if soaked in fuel!

I've always used ironing board foam...around 6mm thick usually Green or Cream colour, and probably relatively heat proof....I never had my A4 blow up at any rate.

Garn l use air filter foam the universal stuff you buy in sheets that you soak in oil.

l have a NOS Silencer if you need measurements, yours looks a bit saggy.

l.ve always wondered about these A4 filters, pic looks like its for silencer but discription indicates convential air filter replacement, which is not correct for A4.

Does any one have the dimensions of that "Hi-Flow" [HFA2901] air filter shown in the above eBay sale.
The dimensions of the steel spool in my photo (post #1) are 94mm outside rims dia and length is 158mm and bore is 60mm dia.

That EBay, Z900 -A4 item, is it what it states? both RGH & Wayne say..No!...
Z1Bman will know!

PS. For RGH, the outside rubber is a bit sloppy, it stiffens up when the spool is inside... Just like mine!

Got very impatient and still got my carbs to fit but couldn't stop myself from pressing the start button.
I have been kicking it over since filling with oil but my patience got the better of me tonight.
It sounded like a dream just spinning and thumping at the carb outlets.
The red oil light cam on but I guess that would be normal.
I'm not intending to make a habit of it but just wanted re assurance it's ok to do.
Suppose I should have asked first but thought I'd better check.
