Clutch that won't let go!

Hi guys, my z1 has a sticking clutch.
When I try to put it into 1st, it's like I haven't pulled the clutch in - it just stalls.
I know the trick of freeing it off with the kick start before starting the engine but even with the clutch pulled in, the engine turns over when I kick it over.
Any tips as to what the problem may be?
It hasn't been used for about 6 weeks and obviously not much over winter. Last time I used it, it was same but after a couple of goes it freed itself and all seemed ok.
Any tips gratefully appreciated.

Put some water under back wheel.
Start bike, hold on front brake and rev to about 3.5 rpm.
Pull in clutch and put into 1st. Let out clutch quick.
A bit messy but usually works........

Hmmm, interesting! If I'm feeling brave, I might try that tomorrow thanks.

My old 'B' was the same if she was left for any length of time. A bump start usually freed the clutch off though.

Always use an elastic band to hold clutch lever in if leaving bike stand for any length of time , to prevent same thing ,

So I take it the consensus is that there isn't a mechanical problem as such just needs getting going and using more?

I put mine on the center stand and with it running in gear hold the clutch lever in and stand on the back brake. It takes a few goes and it doesnt put to much force on the gears, and like steve says the elastic band trick works.

The just "stick" together - once freed should be good to go

You could always fuel it right up.
Leave it in the garage ticking over.
The clutch wont seize anymore.
SIMPLES!!
