Here we go again.

#1 PostAuthor: gary557 » Sun Apr 13, 2014 5:19 pm

I have been out on the Z1B today in the hope that I have at last got it sorted, after spending a fortune last year with one problem after another.
So today I was on the way into the Peak district when I started to lose power, I stopped then set off again and it was fine but I decided to head towards home. It performed well I think [I have never been on a Sorted Z1]
When I got home I was listening to the bike ticking over and noticed an occasional slight pop/miss sound and could feel it on the left exhaust. I did a compression test and found the following.
Number 1 = 70psi
Numbers 2,3,4 =95psi

I am guessing I have a whole load MORE trouble?
Can anyone advize please?

Thanks Gary

Did you have the throttle wide open for the comp test ?. If not try it again. You should be getting well over 100 psi and all cylinders about the same.
If it ain`t broke.....don`t fix it

although compressions low and valve clearances should be checked / adjusted - stopping bike will not restore compressions - my gut feeling is fuel starvation - blocked vent in tank - blocked fuel filters on top of fuel tap - blocked fuel filter in line ( if fitted ) - check air box / filter for blockages

possible blocked small fuel gauze filters on rear of needle seat s ( again if fitted )

your description loosing power points towards fuel starvation / air inlet restriction based issue - electrical would normally be misfire or cut out
whoosh im gone

Well the good news is, I tightened all the rubbers, warmed up the bike, then did another compression test with throttle fully open. I got 110 psi across all 4 cylinders :D
So its just a matter of looking elsewhere to sort the slight pop/ misfire issue.
I will take on board and address all comments and advice that you lads can give to try to cure the problem.

Thanks Gary
