Hi everyone, I presume a standard unitrak 1100 fuel tap has more flow than a Z1000J fuel tap as I have put my 33mm CRS on the J and it feels like fuel starvation on on or reserve- even on prime position its abit stutter when opened up. The GPZ never had this problem with the 33mm carbs. Both bikes have new /good Dyna coils and taylor leads. Probably I need to buy a pingel fuel tap for the Z1000J . Any opinions would be much appreciated. Cheers Nick.

Are you sure the fuel tap is the problem? I have a standard fuel tap on my ELR, which has a gas flowed, large valve head with CRS 33mm carbs and never had any issues with my fueling, even when thrashing it around Donnington

Thanks for the reply Rob. I will look in to it more before I buy a pingel tap. I may still have to play around with main jet sizes. As you say you hav'nt had a problem with your ELR which sounds similar speck to my GPZ1170 . Cheers Nick.

Rob, where do you run your vacuum pipe to on your CRS. Maybe this is my problem. Thanks again Nick.

No vacuum pipe on CRS carbs, or on my fuel tap. My tap must be different to yours, not sure what model fuel tap I have then

That's a mystery then. My 1100 ELR and Z1000J both have vacuum taps as standard to go with the CV carbs. I might just try my UNITRAK tank and tap to see if there is any difference.

Run the tap down into a container. mine is a J vac tap and it flows well enough to run the 1170 flat out for twenty minutes at a time with no hint of fuel starvation.
What does happen is it gets iffy when down to 1/3 of the tank because most circuits seem to be clockwise.
It also had a bit of masking tape wrapped round the filter from when it was painted and a lot of the flaked metal particles from the metal flake paint that had over sprayed into the filler neck.
Have also found that modern fuel or age has swelled the gasket and components that control breathing in the cap.
If it get hot, it holds it pressure and continues to vent / gas for two or three minutes after engine has stopped. Therefore i believe that it vacuum's at the same approximate rate.
The upside is that vapour pressure also assists in filling the carbs when the tap is open.
I have disconnected the vacuum pipe and left it open.
I run it on prime only and On and RES are now off.

I have 2 uni-track taps ,and they have a on , reserve , and off No prime ! so you need to try out the uni-trak tap ?
And like matey said to much air in the fuel tank has caused mine to be very "spluttery" when being ridden hard ! i sussed it out last year ,and just unlocked the fuel cap to release the build up of air/pressure ,then forgot and got petrol over my boll**ks
