Gearing

#1 PostAuthor: weaver » Sun Apr 06, 2014 4:30 pm

My ELR has 17 inch ZRX wheels,it runs a 530 chain with std ELR sprocket sizes 15t and 41t.In top the bike feels like it needs another gear, its at about 6000rpm at 70-75mph.Will the non std wheel sizes have thrown the gearing out significantly? The std final drive ratio is 2.7,I am thinking about going to 17t and 39t to give 2.3 fdr.Any thoughts?

Yes! Fitting the smaller wheel is like fitting a larger back sprocket so you need to compensate by using a smaller back sprocket and possibly a larger front to retain chain/swingarm clearance.

Largest front with 630 pitch is 17 tooth.
