I've got a Pingel tap on my shed. It says to use tape to seal the screw thread but PTFE tape appears to be perishing. Am I using the right stuff or is there a different tape I should be using?

I used PTFE tape on mine and so far it's ok......Pingel actually recommend it in their fitting instructions. I must admit I was a bit hesitant but googled it and found plenty of info to confirm it's ok so just slapped it in

You can also use boss white jointing compound, the gas board use it and its resitant to almost anything..used it loads with no dramas.

I did not put any thread sealant on my pingle.
I just made sure that the threads on the tank boss were clean & in good order.
Just remember to fit the sealing seat washer ( my first attempt I left mine in the packaging

)
No issue so far.
