is DOT 5 compatible with our older bikes,and is it correct it doesnt damage paintwork?

Yes but would not mix dots , not as aggresive but would not leave it on paintwork , thats my opinion

5 is silicone and not compatible with other DOT numbers.
In a new system that has never had other DOT fluids in it it may be OK if the system was designed for it!
It does not harm paintwork.
