Z1R type crankcase breather - help please

#1 PostAuthor: martinz1000r » Sat Mar 08, 2014 4:45 pm

there is a film of oil covering most of the back of my bike. Appears to be coming from the crankcase breather which has one of those little filter things on it. Took the cover off and underneath there is nothing. This cant be right can it? Cases based on engine number are from a Z1R.

what is supposed to be under there and am i harming the engine in any way with it like this? Can the rather large cover be replaced with the flatter version off the later 1000J type crankcase?

It's my Z900 bitsa thing so running CR carbs and bellmouths so not venting back in to an airbox as it would on a stock bike

You need a short length of tube between the crankcases and the breather. That should stop it.

If you're sticking with the large breather cover , i'll send you the bits needed .

There should be a top and bottom breather plate with two breather tubes, two sleaves for two 6x40 screws to go through, according to the parts booklet

Don't bother fitting the baffle plates. Fit a new o-ring seal. Bin the filter and fit a piece of plastic tube into a catch bottle/tank. Don't seal it. If you fit the flatter j plate you will get even more oil coming out of the breather.
