Z1100ST Swingarm

How do you remove the swingarm from a Z1100ST?
This picture below is what you see when you remove the triangular cover (pictured at the bottom). There is a threaded 5mm hole in the centre of this "spindle" . I know its not a spindle as such as there are 2 of them (1 each side) that the swingarm actually pivots on.
I've tried screwing a 5mm bolt into the centre, but it gets very tight very quickly. I don't want to force it in case I break it (lots of the parts are rusted / seized).
I've seen the resto in projects by Vduk but it is unclear how it actually comes out. Thanks in advance Freddy.
